Media Matters for Democracy launches ‘2019: A Year in Review’ highlighting key organisational interventions in the previous year

Media Matters for Democracy (MMFD), in March 2020, published its annual report which highlights policy advocacy, litigation, community mobilization initiatives, campaigns, and a wide array of interventions undertaken by the organisation to push for a progressive media and cyberspace in 2019.

MMFD grew tremendously during the year 2019 with new partnerships and ventures. MMFD also organized major events such as the successful Sahafi Summit held in Karachi in May and Ba-Shaoor Shehri, Pur Amn Pakistan: Media & Information Literacy (MIL) for Prevention of Violent Extremism – A Multi-stakeholder Dialogue held in partnership with UNESCO.

In addition to other key achievements, MMFD launched 7 major publications in 2019 on various human rights issues. MMFD also published important researches, such as ‘Hostile Bytes’, a research publication on online violence against women journalists, ‘The Internet as We See It’, a study on the perception of Internet in Pakistan, and ‘The Legal Landscape for Media’, a guidebook to help journalists know laws the regulate speech in Pakistan.
