Islamabad: Media Matters for Democracy held a consultation session with industry experts and stakeholders to address the viability and sustainability challenges faced by the media sector in Pakistan on February 24, 2023 in Islamabad.
The session was based on the findings and recommendations of a national assessment of UNESCO’s media development indicators and media viability indicators conducted by Media Matters for Democracy (MMfD).
The assessment highlighted the significant challenges faced by the media sector in terms of its viability, particularly in the context of digital media. The consultation aimed to involve media stakeholders in the development of a comprehensive strategy for supporting the media sector in Pakistan, which will inform UNESCO’s own interventions in the country over the next few years.
MMfD is committed to supporting the media sector in Pakistan and promoting media independence and sustainability.
