Media Matters for Democracy submits formal feedback highlighting concerns and comments and recommendations on Personal Data Protection Bill 2020

Islamabad, 3rd June 2020

Media Matters for Democracy (MMFD) has submitted the formal review, comments, and recommendations in response to the draft Personal Data Protection Bill 2020 posted on the website of the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MOITT) for feedback.

Asad Baig, the founder of MMFD, has commended the MOITT’s initiative to call for feedback from civil society on data privacy and protection bill and stressed upon the need for ‘multi-stakeholderism’ in all policies related to Internet. “Internet is a truly universal medium, and any policy that is made to govern it affects all of us, and thus it is of utmost importance that mutli-stakeholderism should be the driving factor in digital policymaking”, he said.

Commenting on the draft legislation, he said that there are concerns in Personal Data Protection Bill 2020, but we are hopeful that our feedback and recommendations will assist MOITT in addressing them.
