Media Matters for Democracy launches first of its kind Urdu booklet to help Pakistani Internet users to identify and counter online misinformation

The Global Risks Report by the World Economic Forum lists digital misinformation as a growing global risk. This risk is extremely potent in Pakistan as a large segment of the population lacks digital literacy and is vulnerable to all kinds of online and digital propaganda. Lack of editorial controls within the mainstream media, leading to the media becoming a party to the distribution of misinformation and the trend of using “forwarded as received” disclaimers to further unverified information further adds to an environment where news and information consumers are surrounded by unverified, unsubstantiated pieces of information.

This booklet aims to serve as a tool of support for consumers of information to help them make decisions about the authenticity of the content they are consuming.
