MMfD conducts training on digital skills and sensitive reporting in Sri Lanka

Media Matters for Democracy (MMfD) recently conducted a comprehensive training on digital skills and sensitive reporting in Sri Lanka.

The workshop, held from 9 to 10 May 2024, was led by MMfD’s Executive Director and CEO of Media Lab Asad Baig. The event was organised with support from the Strengthening Social Cohesion and Peace in Sri Lanka programme (SCOPE), European Union (EU), and the German Federal Foreign Office.

The two-day workshop’s primary objective was to equip participants, which comprised media professionals, with essential digital media skills and the fundamentals of sensitive reporting. The training provided participants with valuable insights into how social media can be utilised for news gathering and combating misinformation online.

The training also focused on hands-on techniques for critical reporting to build understanding and eliminate existing gaps among diverse communities within Sri Lanka.

Through engaging sessions and real-world case studies, participants explored how to leverage emerging technologies, data analysis tools, and ethical principles, equipping them to produce meaningful and responsible journalism that promotes unity in society.
