Media Matters for Democracy (MMfD) recently conducted an insightful and hands-on training session with the faculty members of the University of Central Punjab (UCP) in Lahore.
The training session, held from 26 to 27 December 2024, was led by MMfD’s Executive Director Asad Baig and facilitated by Jareeullah Shah, who is a tech consultant at the digital rights and media literacy nonprofit based in Islamabad.
The training focused on the significance of artificial intelligence (AI) and Large Language Models (LLMs) in the fields of academia and research.

The two-day training laid out a comprehensive understanding of AI and guided faculty members with regards to its optimal utilisation to facilitate various components of education, including research, as well as for administrative efficiency.
“Watching the participants get hands-on with the technology and explore real-world applications made all the effort worthwhile,” says Jareeullah Shah. “I’m glad the training sparked new ideas and skills around AI and its role in shaping the future of academia in Pakistan.”
The session was attended by 17 members from the Faculty of Media & Mass Communication (FMMC), who showed a highly welcoming response to the demonstration.
