What: A day with the families of slain journalists to commemorate the International Day to End Impunity in Karachi Press Club
When: 2nd November, 2017 @ 3:00 PM
Where: Karachi Press Club, Karachi
Pakistan has proven to be one of the toughest places for journalists. A total of 120 media workers have died in the line of duty since the year 2000 and thousands more are at risk. A clear majority have been target killed, mostly for their journalistic work or their association with a particular media house.
Cases of only 5 of those who have been targeted have seen progress in terms of arrests and convictions. Perpetrators in 79 cases are allowed to roam free with complete impunity.
The International Day to Impunity in Crimes Against Journalist is commemorated globally on the 2nd of November with an aim to bring to attention the dismal rate of prosecutions in attacks on journalists. This year, MMFD, PPF, and Karachi Press Club have invited the families of slain journalists and together with our colleagues and friends we raise our voice to demand an end to crimes against journalists.
We request you to support us and join hands to secure justice for these families.
